About UPC-A
UPC-A is a 12-digit retail barcode used primarily in North America. It encodes a GS1 GTIN-12 for point-of-sale systems.
Use only an assigned product number. Test the final print on the intended packaging material before production.
Practical implementation notes
Retail barcodes identify an item; they do not create a product number. Obtain the GTIN or UPC from your GS1 organization, brand owner or retailer, then place the barcode on a flat, high-contrast area of the pack. Avoid seams, folds, glossy glare and curved areas where possible.
